Technical Officer – Process Chemistry & Environmental

Bundoora | $62.48/hr + Superannuation

Are you an experienced technical professional passionate about safety, precision, and the future of chemical engineering research?

We’re seeking a Technical Officer – Process Chemistry & Environmental to join a dynamic academic and research environment. You'll support complex lab operations, ensure safety compliance, and guide students and staff in using advanced polymer processing equipment.

Key Responsibilities:

• Lab Safety & Compliance

  • Ensure safe handling, storage, and disposal of hazardous chemicals

  • Apply knowledge of WHS and OHS legislation, MSDS, GHS, and local protocols

• Equipment Management & User Support

  • Operate, maintain, and train users on a range of equipment:

    • Compression Moulding Machines, Extruders, Melt Mixers, Granulators, Injection Moulders

  • Develop SOPs, run inductions, and troubleshoot technical issues

• Laboratory Operations

  • Manage lab bookings, inventory, waste disposal, and emergency procedures

  • Assist with planning and commissioning of new equipment

• Documentation & Collaboration

  • Maintain SOPs, conduct risk assessments, and contribute to lab upgrades

  • Collaborate across teams and engage with researchers and students

About You:

• Degree or higher in Chemical Engineering or a related field

• Demonstrated experience in a chemistry or chemical engineering lab setting

• Strong technical skills and the ability to support complex lab equipment

• Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills

• A valid Working with Children Check is essential
